Athlete Laura Dahlmeier met her demise in a mountain accident that occurred in Pakistan.

Laura Dahlmeier, a two-time Olympic gold medalist and seven-time world champion biathlete, tragically lost her life in a mountaineering accident on July 28, 2025. The incident occurred while she was climbing Laila Peak, a towering mountain in the Karakoram range, Pakistan, at approximately 5,700 meters elevation.

According to her management and local authorities, Dahlmeier, who was 31 years old at the time, was struck by falling rocks during the ascent. Her rope partner, Marina Eva, survived the incident and raised the alarm, issuing a distress call. Despite rescue efforts being launched immediately, the operation had to be called off on July 29 due to poor weather and low visibility, preventing helicopters from reaching the accident site.

The statement about Dahlmeier's death comes from her management, who confirmed that she died instantly from her injuries at the accident site. Unfortunately, no further details about the cause of her instantaneous death have been given.

This tragic event occurred during a mountaineering expedition and abruptly ended the life of an accomplished Olympic athlete outside her primary sport. Dahlmeier retired from professional biathlon in 2019.

Since the initial report, no new confirmation about the incident has been received. The assumption is based on the findings from the helicopter flyover and the descriptions of her rope partner about the severity of her injuries.

Our thoughts are with Dahlmeier's family, friends, and fans during this difficult time.
