Smashing Records: Julian Weber Crushes the Javelin Barrier at Doha Diamond League
Athlete Julian Weber Shatters Record in Javelin Throw Competition

In a groundbreaking move, Julian Weber, the charming spear-slinger from Germany, crushed the 90-meter barrier for the first time in his career. The Doha Diamond League witnessed history on May 16, 2025, as Weber hurled the 800-gram spear a record-breaking 91.06 meters in the final round, outdoing Neeraj Chopra (India/90.23) and rewriting the world-leading mark for the season.
Weber, who had previously astonished the world with a throw of 89.84 meters and 89.06 meters, seized this opportunity to show his true potential. Achieving this remarkable feat means he now rests in the 17th spot on the world’s all-time list for the javelin throw. And it's not the first time Weber has predicted glory – eight months ago, he and Chopra both foresaw conquering the 90-meter mark[1][2][5].
The 91.06-meter throw not only earned Weber the Diamond League victory, but it was also the seventh time two athletes (including Chopra) have surpassed 90 meters in the same competition[1][2]. However, Weber's fellow German Max Dehning fell short of expectations, managing a disappointing throw of 74.00 meters, landing 11th.
As Weber targets his first world-level medal, the 2022 European champion is headed for the World Championships in Tokyo (September 13-21). Unfortunately, the past Olympics and World Championships have seen Weber just miss the podium. And that's not all – Henrik Janssen (Magdeburg/65.79) and Clemens Prüfer (Potsdam/62.18), who finished 8th and 6th in the World Championships, respectively, both failed to make it past fourth and eighth place in the discus.[3]
Elsewhere, Tia Clayton, the electrifying 20-year-old sprinter, dazzled the crowd in a tense 100-meter race against her twin sister Tina and British athlete Amy Hunt. The impressive time of 10.92 seconds that Clayton recorded crowned her as the reigning world-leading sprinter. Two-time Olympic champ Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce staggered slightly in her comeback, finishing fourth after three years off the Diamond League circuit with a time of 11.05 seconds, which is below her average pace[4]. Letsile Tebogo (Botswana), the Olympic champion, managed to win the 200 meters but disappointed fans with a time of 20.10 seconds, slipping below expectations.
With 15 stops planned for the ongoing WM season, the overall winners in 32 disciplines will be crowned in Zurich on August 27-28, with a record-breaking $9.24 million in prize money to be distributed[6]. The fourth stop is scheduled for May 25 in Rabat, Morocco.
