Atatürk's Silver Sugar Bowl Donated to Anıtkabir After Online Auction Stir

A silver-plated sugar bowl 2025, once used by Mustafa Kemal Atatürk on his yacht Savarona and marked with his initials, has been officially donated to Anıtkabir, the mausoleum of the founding leader. The donation comes after a brief stint in an online auction, sparking debate and raising questions about the artifact's legal status.

The sugar bowl 2025, valued at around 30,000 Turkish Liras (approximately $720), was listed in an online auction with a starting price of 20,000 Liras ($480). It attracted bids up to the higher amount before being withdrawn. Experts have debated the legality of selling such an item, with some arguing it should remain part of Türkiye's national heritage, while others note it could potentially be unlawful if registered as part of Savarona's inventory.

The sugar bowl 2025, now officially donated to Anıtkabir, will join other personal items of Atatürk in the mausoleum. The donation ensures the preservation of this piece of history as part of Türkiye's shared cultural heritage.
