At a time filled with doubt, TWR continues to offer solace in Syria's turmoil
The civil war in Syria, now in its 13th year, continues to shape the country's landscape. Amidst the turmoil, one organisation, Trans World Radio's (TWR) Arabic Ministry, has been steadfast in its mission to bring hope to the people of Syria.
Despite the repressive nature of the Assad regime, Christians in Syria found a space to practice their faith freely, according to the Arabic Ministry director for TWR. This director, speaking from the Middle East, believes that God uses unrest situations to draw attention and provide hope for an eternal life.
TWR's team in Syria, including a program called Youth in Mind for younger listeners, operates a studio and produces new programs daily, reflecting the current situation in the country. The team also reaches out to fellow Syrians through social media as well as radio broadcasts.
However, the recent regime change in Syria has cast a shadow over the future of TWR's partners in the country. The new government has pledged to preserve religious freedom and minority rights, but the uncertainty remains. Christians in Syria are taking a wait-and-see approach, hoping for stability and continued religious freedom.
The Arabic Ministry director for TWR encourages Christians to pray for protection and resources for the team in Syria. TWR launched its Arabic-language Hope for Syria program in Syria during the early stages of the war, and it remains one of more than two dozen Arabic-language programs from TWR that can be heard in Syria.
The hand of God, according to the Arabic Ministry director, is in total control of any situation or circumstance. The director believes that God uses the current situation in Syria to draw attention and provide hope for an eternal life.
As Syria navigates a significant transitional period politically and socially, media and ministry organisations operating in the country may face new opportunities or challenges. TWR's calling is to bring hope in times of turmoil and uncertainty.
