At 80, Legendary Composer Ralph Siegel Keeps Busy With Musicals and Eurovision Dreams

Legendary German composer Ralph Siegel, now 80, is busier than ever. Despite health challenges, he's working on multiple musicals and yearns to return to the Eurovision Song Contest. Siegel, who won the contest in 1982, believes in the power of German music but feels it's underrepresented on local radio and TV.

Siegel's current projects include two unfinished musicals, set to hit the stage in the coming years. Meanwhile, 'Zeppelin' is returning to the Festspielhaus in Füssen from October 16th. The composer, who has written over 2,000 songs including hits like 'You Can't Always Be 17' and 'Greek Wine', is also working on two more musicals nearing completion.

Siegel's impressive Eurovision track record includes three second places, two third places, and two fourth places between 1974 and 1999. Despite his achievements, he believes German music deserves more airtime. He hopes to see a 50 percent share for German content on radio and TV.

Ralph Siegel, who has overcome cancer and heart surgery, continues to create and advocate for German music. With multiple projects in the pipeline and a desire to return to the Eurovision stage, Siegel remains a driving force in the industry. Despite current world events, he's grateful for his life and looks forward to what's next.
