Astro-Pop Star Katy Perry Puzzled Young Fan by Requesting Them to Consume Her Shoe Made of Cotton Candy
Take a Seat, 'Cause Katy Perry's Show is a Wild Ride
If you thought the fall of Katy Perry couldn't get any wilder, think again! This pop queen's performances have become the most fascinating pop-cultural spectacle I've ever seen.
Society swiftly turned its back on her, and it couldn't have been for anything horrible. Perry just produced some mediocre music, danced like a fool, and blasted off into space, and suddenly we were all like, "Nah, she ain't our cup of tea." Future sociology students will be digging into her case studies, while some colleges might give it a pass, but it's still intriguing.
One thought-provoking piece came from Scaachi Koul for Slate. In her article, Koul shares her experience attending a Perry concert in Oklahoma City and points out a bizarre moment that had me questioning my reality.
"The show was well-attended and still undeniably awkward, like the part when Perry invited an 11-year-old onstage to perform with her," Koul writes.
Ugh, I've got issues with performers bringing up audience members during the show, especially when it's planned. But, I promise you Katy Perry chooses a kid from the front row every single night and delivers the same tired pitch.
And speaking of tired, get ready for the kicker! You're not prepared for the torture that young girl went through when she shared the stage with our least favorite cosmonaut.
"Perry presented the child with her shoe, which looked as if it were caught in a cotton-candy tornado. 'You want some?' she asked, pulling off a piece of what appeared to be real candy," Koul writes. "The child stared back at her, confused and overwhelmed, unsure if she was supposed to... eat this famous woman's shoe?"
That's right, folks – poor kiddo was offered a taste of the singing superstar's cotton candy footwear! By now, we all know that kids are told a million times not to take candy from strangers. And here comes Katy Perry, trying to sell her shoe candy!
The whole scene was disturbing for everyone involved. For the kid, it was a complete contradiction of everything she's been taught about strangers and candy. For the audience, I'm guessing they were sitting there, trying to wrap their heads around why they shelled out cash to watch a girl eat shoe candy and a has-been popstar dance like a wobbly giraffe an hour after being born on the Serengeti.
But listen, the best is yet to come. The Katy Perry fall from grace is just getting started, and it could get deliciously nutty.
(Note: Critics argue that Perry often has awkward stage interactions, makes questionable requests during performances, faces criticisms for career shifts, and struggles with maintaining her popularity due to the public's evolving perspective of her and her music.)
Celebrities like Katy Perry have always been intertwined with pop-culture, and her latest performances have not shied away from this trend. For instance, an 11-year-old girl was invited onstage during a concert, leading to an awkward moment when Perry offered her a piece of shoe candy, a bizarre request that caused confusion for both the child and the audience.
