Bohmisch, a graduate in German and English studies, has expertise in digital book business, having served as a consultant for media companies and managing the German-speaking markets for Bookwire GmbH until 2022, boasting an impressive roster of publishing clients.
Martin Buhl-Wagner, managing director of Leipziger Messe, expressed enthusiasm about Bohmisch's competence, stating, "Her leadership will lead to the Leipzig Book Fair continuing to strategically and content-wise develop, strengthening its position as an exceptional international cultural event." Zille, who had guided the Leipzig Book Fair for 30 years, unexpectedly announced his resignation in June 2022, having spearheaded the event since 1991.
In recent times, the Leipzig Book Fair faced challenges due to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic, forcing three consecutive cancellations. However, this spring, the fair garnered a respectable 274,000 attendees, with a pre-pandemic record of 286,000 visitors. The 2024 edition of the Leipzig Book Fair will run from March 21 to 24.
Bohmisch characterized her new role as an honor and an exciting challenge, expressing her eagerness to collaborate with her fellow team members and shape the Leipzig Book Fair's future in partnership with Leopzig Reads and Manga-Comic-Con. Bohmisch thanked Zille for his unwavering dedication during his 33-year tenure, highlighting the integral part he played in the Leipzig Book Fair's ascent and recognition in the global cultural scene.
Bohmisch's experience in digital book publishing, coupled with her background in German and English studies, promises to bring innovative ideas to the German cultural tour de force that is the Leipzig Book Fair.
