Astonishing eight goals scored within the initial half.
Borussia Dortmund and Juventus Turin Play Out Thrilling 3-3 Draw in Champions League Opener
In a rollercoaster of a game, Borussia Dortmund and Juventus Turin played out a thrilling 4-4 draw in their Champions League opener on September 4, 2025, at the atmospheric Juventus Stadium. The game was witnessed by 41,497 spectators.
The first half was an exciting spectacle, with goals flowing from both teams. Karim Adeyemi opened the scoring for Dortmund in the 52nd minute, only for Khephren Thuram to equalize for Juventus shortly after. Felix Nmecha restored Dortmund's lead, but Kenan Yildiz equalized once more for Juventus before half-time.
The second half was a different story, as Dortmund played more purposefully and with intent. In the 64th minute, Marcel Sabitzer, who had been substituted on by Dortmund, scored the 3-2 goal with a shot into the near corner. However, Juventus refused to be outdone, as Dusan Vlahovic scored the 2-2 equalizer in the 70th minute.
Just when it seemed Juventus had taken control, Dortmund responded immediately through Ramy Bensebaini, who scored a penalty to make it 3-3. Yet, Vlahovic set up Kelly's goal for the final 3-4 score for Juventus. Maximilian Beier had a chance to equalize for Dortmund from a tight angle but hit the post. In the closing stages of the game, Dortmund barely threatened, and Juventus held on for the draw.
After the game, goalkeeper Gregor Kobel expressed his disappointment, stating, "You have to play more maturely." Kobel had to showcase his skills early to keep a shot from Thuram out of the net, and Guirassy had a great chance for 2-0 but was denied by Di Gregorio.
Despite the draw, Dortmund continues to wait for their first win against Juventus Turin since the 1997 Champions League final. The two teams will meet again in the group stages, with both sides eager to claim victory.
