Asterix 2026 back in dialect - "Troubles with the Palatines" - Asterix Returns in Palatinate Dialect: 'Zores bei de Pälzer' Coming in 2026

Author Christian 'Chako' Habekost is bringing another Asterix adventure to life in Palatinate dialect. The release date for the next book is yet to be announced, but fans can expect a humorous take on the classic series.

Habekost, who previously translated 'Asterix as Palatinator' to great success, is undeterred by the risk of dialect versions being laughed at. Instead, he sees it as an opportunity to add extra comedy. His upcoming work, 'Zores bei de Pälzer' (Trouble in the Palatinate), is a translation of 'Asterix and the Chieftain’s Shield', set for release in 2026.

Habekost approaches his translations chronologically, spending ample time refining and adding creative elements. He finds parallels between the Gauls and the Palatinate people, both standing against 'Roman' (standard German) overlords. The Palatinate dialect's rich humor and pun potential make it well-suited for translating Asterix. Habekost selects volumes based on personal favorites and popularity, with 'Asterix and the Chieftain’s Shield' being a cult favorite.

However, Habekost warns against the biggest trap in translation: relying too much on the original text and not leaving room for creative interpretation.

Fans can look forward to another humorous Asterix adventure in Palatinate dialect, with 'Zores bei de Pälzer' set to release in 2026. Habekost's creative approach to translation ensures a fresh take on the classic series, while respecting the original's humor and spirit.
