Astanе schools shift to online classes amid severe winter storms

Severe winter weather has forced schools in Astanе to switch to distance learning for younger students. The change affects pupils in grades 0–9 on December 10, 2025, as heavy snow, ice, and strong winds sweep across Kazakhstan. Authorities have acted to keep children safe during the harsh conditions.

The decision comes after forecasts warned of blizzards, freezing rain, and gusty winds across much of the country. Schools in Astanе moved quickly to shift first-shift classes online, ensuring students could continue lessons without risking travel.

The temporary switch to online classes will remain in place until conditions improve. Schools in Astanе plan to resume in-person lessons once the weather stabilises. Parents and students have been advised to monitor updates for further instructions.
