Astana Opera Brings 'Coppelia' to Muscat, Oman in December 2022

Astana Opera is set to captivate audiences in Muscat, Oman, with their first-ever performance of Roland Petit's 'Coppélia' in December 2022. The ballet company, led by artistic director Altynai Asylmuratova, is bringing their popular production to Oman, following its success in Saint Petersburg and Kazakhstan. The tour is supported by the Ministry of Culture and Information of Kazakhstan.

The company is traveling with a large entourage, including 55 dancers, musicians, and crew, along with elaborate sets and costumes. The ballet, a comedy full of irony, reimagines E.T.A. Hoffmann's mystical tale. It has been a favorite performance since its addition to the repertoire in 2019 and was well-received in Saint Petersburg this spring.

Astana Opera will present 'Coppélia' in two casts with different styles, offering viewers a joyful and lighthearted experience. Honoured Workers of Kazakhstan, including Bakhtiyar Adamzhan, Aigerim Beketayeva, and Rustem Seitbekov, will perform on December 4, while Yerkin Rakhmatullayev, Olzhas Tarlanov, and Shugyla Adepkhan will take the stage on December 5. The company's general director, Alexandr Sovostyanov, expressed their goal to demonstrate the high level of Kazakh ballet through this performance.

Following this tour, Astana Opera will return to Kazakhstan to premiere Giuseppe Verdi's opera 'Rigoletto' at the opera house in October. The production, staged by Arnaud Bernard and conducted by Alan Buribayev, will be the first performance of this opera at Astana Opera. The company's commitment to bringing high-quality performances to both local and international audiences is evident in their upcoming tours and premieres.
