Astana halts ten suburban bus routes amid extreme winter storm

Astana has suspended ten suburban bus routes due to severe winter weather. The city’s public transport operator, Astana LRT LLP, halted services on lines 305, 308, 309, 310, 312, 315, 316, 327, 328, and 329. Freezing temperatures and strong winds have made travel conditions unsafe.

Current temperatures in Astana hover around –18°C (–0.4°F), with overnight lows expected to plunge further. Forecasts predict –26 to –28°C (–15 to –18°F) at night and daytime highs of just –20 to –22°C (–4 to –8°F) on January 15–16. Northeasterly winds are gusting at 9–14 metres per second (20–31 mph), adding to the hazardous conditions.

Icy roads and extreme cold have forced the temporary closure of the affected routes. All remaining suburban services under Astana LRT LLP continue to operate as normal. The company has not yet announced when the suspended lines will resume.

The weather disruption follows a pattern of harsh winter conditions across the region. Commuters relying on the cancelled routes must seek alternative transport until further notice. Authorities advise caution when travelling due to persistent freezing temperatures and high winds.
