Astana Braces for Severe Cold Snap: Temperatures Plummet, Black Ice Expected

Astana residents brace for a significant cold snap, with temperatures plummeting to -8 to -10°C (17.6 to 14°F) on November 4. The Ministry of Internal Affairs, led by Ulan Ermekbaev, has issued a nationwide appeal to road users amidst predictions of heavy precipitation, black ice, and strong winds.

The city has already witnessed its first snowfall, and drivers are urged to take necessary precautions. This includes checking tire condition, brake systems, and fluid levels. Carrying essential cold-weather supplies is also advised. Motorists should obey speed limits, maintain safe following distances, and adhere to proper maneuvering rules. Snowplows have been deployed across the city to ensure road safety.

The weather forecast predicts heavy precipitation, black ice, and strong winds with gusts of 15–20 meters per second (33–45 mph). Road users are advised to exercise extreme caution and be prepared for challenging driving conditions.

As Astana prepares for the cold snap, road users are urged to prioritize safety. By following the Ministry's advice and taking necessary precautions, residents can navigate the harsh weather conditions and ensure safe travel throughout the city.
