Assistance: Funding or Assistance Provided by Nordhorn and Coevorden in Chuhuiv
In the heart of Germany, the city of Nordhorn came together in October 2024 for a solidarity concert. The event, part of the "Ortszeit Deutschland" series, was graced by the presence of Federal President Frank-Walter Steinmeier. The concert marked the beginning of a remarkable journey that would see over 102,000 euros in donations collected and transformed into vital aid materials.
These materials were destined for Nordhorn's Ukrainian partner city, Chuhuiv, which has been deeply affected by the ongoing conflict. The generous donations allowed for the purchase of two vehicles, tools, and power generators, all of which were intended to provide much-needed support to the people of Chuhuiv.
A volunteer six-person driver group from Nordhorn and its neighbouring town, Coevorden, played a pivotal role in delivering these aid supplies to the Polish-Ukrainian border. Despite the challenges, they ensured the quick and direct delivery of the much-needed aid to Chuhuiv.
Upon receiving the aid, the Mayor of Chuhuiv, Galyna Minayeva, expressed her heartfelt gratitude. The aid materials, she said, not only provided the city with much-needed resources but also brought a strong feeling of not being alone to the people of Chuhuiv.
The aid materials have proven to be invaluable. After a heavy drone attack on the central hospital in Chuhuiv, the aid materials played a crucial role in securing the hospital, allowing operations to continue within a day.
Mayor Thomas Berling of Nordhorn also extended his thanks to the citizens of his city for their generous donations. He acknowledged that without their support, the aid project would not have been possible.
In a letter of thanks, Mayor Minayeva wrote, "The aid materials and the emotional support we have received have been a beacon of hope in these difficult times." The vehicles and equipment delivered to Chuhuiv are currently in use with the city's emergency repair brigade, ensuring that the city continues to function and recover.
Through this act of solidarity, the cities of Nordhorn and Coevorden have shown that even in the face of adversity, the spirit of unity and support can shine bright. The people of Chuhuiv are forever grateful for this remarkable gesture of kindness and solidarity.
