Assembly in Rivers calls for investigation into Ibas, urges Fubara to prepare budget

In a series of events that have sparked controversy, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu reinstated Governor Siminalayi Fubara and his deputy prior to a plenary session held in the conference hall within the legislative quarters. The session, presided over by Speaker Martin Amaewhule, saw the Rivers State House of Assembly pass a resolution to probe the state's finances during the six-month emergency rule of Ibok-Ete Ibas.

However, the African Democratic Congress (ADC) has condemned the suspension and subsequent reinstatement of Governor Fubara by President Tinubu. In a statement signed by Bolaji Abdullahi, the party's National Publicity Secretary, the action was described as "whimsically autocratic." The ADC also expressed dismay at President Tinubu's attempt to disguise political brinkmanship as statesmanship.

The suspension of Governor Fubara is considered self-serving and unconstitutional by the ADC. The party further stated that the action may define President Tinubu's political legacy. Notably, the ADC did not mention Ibok Ete-Ibas in the statement.

Following his reinstatement, Governor Fubara has not appeared at the government building due to ongoing political tensions and potential security concerns. The lawmakers, during the session, urged Governor Fubara to prepare the budget and transmit the list of commissioners' nominees for screening and confirmation.

It's important to note that the Rivers State House of Assembly is still under construction following its demolition months ago by the state government. No new facts about the lifting of the emergency rule were mentioned in the statement, nor were there any new facts about the construction status of the Rivers State House of Assembly or the plenary session, budget preparation, or commissioners' nominees in the statement.

President Bola Tinubu lifted the emergency rule on September 17, restoring all democratic structures in the state. The action has certainly set the stage for an interesting political narrative in Rivers State and beyond.
