Susan Kuhnhausen: A Story of Survival and Courage

Assassination Attempt on Susan Kuhnhausen Fails, Kuhnhausen Retaliates with Fatal Strike against Attempting Killer

Susan Kuhnhausen, a 51-year-old ER nurse from Portland, Oregon, found herself in an extraordinary situation in 2006 when she faced a murder-for-hire plot orchestrated by her estranged husband. Kuhnhausen's story is one of bravery, resilience, and survival, as she successfully fought off her attacker and saved her own life.

On September 6, 2006, Kuhnhausen returned home to find a stranger, Ed Haffey, in her bedroom. Haffey, who was hired by Kuhnhausen's husband, Michael, intended for the attack to resemble a burglary gone wrong. Haffey wore yellow rubber gloves and carried a claw hammer.

Kuhnhausen, who stands at 5'4" and outweighed Haffey, was initially taken aback. However, adrenaline kicked in, and she quickly sprang into action. As Haffey attacked her with the hammer, Kuhnhausen tackled him and pushed him against the wall.

During the 15-minute fight, Kuhnhausen uttered only one word, "You're strong," before delivering a series of blows that ultimately left Haffey unconscious. She kept him in a chokehold until he stopped breathing, and when he fell to the ground, she wrestled the hammer from his grip and hit him a few times more.

With Haffey down, Kuhnhausen's next action was to run to her neighbour's house to call 9-1-1. Further investigation revealed that Haffey had a personal planner with Michael Kuhnhausen's phone number under September 4, 2006, and the words "Call Mike."

Kuhnhausen's quick thinking and self-defense skills saved her life. Despite the traumatic event, she has since become an outspoken advocate for victims of violent crime. Her story has been featured in various media, highlighting her bravery and survival instincts.

While there is no specific information about her advocacy work related to violent crime, her story is often used to emphasize the strength and resilience of women in the face of adversity. Kuhnhausen, now known as Susan Walters, continues to inspire others with her courage and determination.
