Aspiring to Shine Bright: Star in the Making
In the heart of London, a prosperous ghostwriter accepted an enticing offer to pen the memoirs of a former British Prime Minister, Adam Lang. His predecessor, McAra, mysteriously perished before finishing the project.
The ghostwriter embarks on a trip to Martha's Vineyard, an isolated island off the New England coast, where Adam Lang resides with his wife Ruth, and his assistant-cum-mistress, Amelia. On his arrival, a storm brews as Richard Rycart, a former Cabinet minister, publicly accuses Lang of engaging in heinous acts during the Iraq War, such as handing over suspected terrorists to the CIA for interrogation and torture.
Despite Lang's vehement denials, a media frenzy ensues, with journalists and demonstrators swarming the island. With the International Criminal Court on his heels, if Lang stays in the US, he risks prosecution.
As the ghostwriter immerses himself in the manuscript, he discovers that McAra had uncovered incriminating evidence implicating Lang in collusion with the CIA. The ghostwriter's footsteps send shockwaves, and he finds himself in grave danger.
