Growing up, I'd relive "Wetten, dass..." in our living room

I'm probably the biggest fan of Gottschalk in existence, and I'm the only one in my generation (born in '03) who shares this enthusiasm.

My childhood obsession with the show

I used to think the show was excellent. At the tender age of 8, I sat on the couch in my pajamas with my grandma, watching the entire show. It was special because I usually had to go to bed much earlier.

As a kid, I would host my version of "Wetten, dass..." in the living room, and my entire family would participate. The show has given me some unforgettable moments and stayed by my side during my A-levels and the special episode releases in 2021 and 2022.

The same joy as acing a math test

The Eurovision anthem playing, and Thomas Gottschalk stepping onto the stage, fills me with joy every time. It brings the same feeling as acing a math test: pure joy and a long-lasting good mood.

To experience this joy in 2023, I'll rely on YouTube because the TV era of "Wetten, dass..." will come to an end on November 25. YouTube doesn't diminish the magical feeling the show generates. Only the video quality needs occasional improvement.

"Wetten, dass..." nights on YouTube

I caught the "Wetten, dass..." bug during the first lockdown. I spent nights watching old episodes of the show on YouTube, I was hooked. The show's unique bets, the catchy theme tune, and above all, Thomas Gottschalk...

This combo still transports me to another world, filled with joy, laughter, and good humor. Thomas Gottschalk's relaxed approach, spontaneity, and exceptional humor brightened up my days. He put a smile on my face many times, and I will forever remain grateful for the magical moments he and his show brought into my life.

I am both sad and grateful today

I still have one more opportunity to enjoy Thomas Gottschalk and "Wetten, dass..." on television. After that, YouTube will be my last chance to immerse myself in the magic of the past. Although the parting and finality are heart-wrenching, gratitude prevails.

Gratitude for having the opportunity to witness Thomas Gottschalk host the most successful European show one last time. Unfortunately, I won't be able to watch the show with my grandma on November 25. But I will never forget the moment when Thomas Gottschalk welcomes Germany, Austria, and Switzerland for the last time – bet on it!

Sometimes, I find myself reminiscing about watching "Wetten, dass..." as a child, particularly in our living room.

Even now, I sometimes tune into the show on TV or rewatch episodes on online platforms.

First sweeping audiences with its unique blend of entertainment, humor, and social commentary, the show was initially hosted by Frank Elstner before Thomas Gottschalk took over in 2014.

Named "Bet That...?" in English, the show's format involves a series of challenges and games, with contestants betting on the outcomes.
