The Düsseldorf Schauspielhaus has unveiled an enthralling lineup for its 2025/26 season, promising a diverse array of plays, events, and premieres. The theme for the season is "the power of art," with the claim "Dignity and Freedom" for everyone.

Kicking off the season, Fabiola Kuonen will direct "The Raft of the Medusa," a tragedy about the survival struggle of 13 shipwrecked children written by Georg Kaiser, at the start of the season. This will be followed by the premiere of 74 Minuten by new house author Raphaela Bardutzky on October 5, 2025, in the Kammerspiele.

Shakespeare's Was ihr wollt (Twelfth Night) directed by Bernadette Sonnenbichler, a Schauspielhaus Großes Haus performance, is scheduled for September 26, 2025. Before she leaves to become artistic director in Heidelberg, Sonnenbichler will also be directing the dramatization of Vladimir Sorokin's "Blizzard," which will be performed at the Düsseldorf Schauspielhaus starting September 12th. August Diehl will play the lead role, Doctor Garin, in this production.

"The Drop," written by Lutz Hübner and Sarah Nemitz, will discuss the consequences of the pandemic. This thought-provoking play is sure to resonate with audiences.

Andreas Karlaganis will be taking over as the new dramaturg at the Düsseldorf Schauspielhaus next season. He will be replacing Wilfried Schulz, who is currently the dramaturg and will be stepping down next season.

The Moscow storyteller Vladimir Sorokin wrote the play "Blizzard," which will be performed at the Düsseldorf Schauspielhaus. Another play based on a novel, "Life Began in the Summer," written by former footballer Christoph Kramer, will also be performed in the Small House.

"The McNeal Case" by Ayad Akhtar will be discussed in the Small House at the Düsseldorf Schauspielhaus starting September 14th of this year. Orwell's "1984" will also be a part of the discussions at the Central.

For the younger audience, "The Door" by Gregory Caers promises to be a big laugh, while "Emil and the Three Twins" will have its premiere at Christmas in the large house.

The Central, the shared home of The Young Theater and the City:Collective, will become a "creative power center" in a challenging environment. Stefan Fischer-Fels will continue as the director of the young theater at the Central after the change of intendant.

The program at the Central starts on September 19 with a classic of children's literature: "Timm Thaler or The Sold Laughter" by James Krüss. The 2025/26 season brochure for the Düsseldorf Schauspielhaus is a thick, beautiful picture book with photos by Thomas Rabsch. The lilac book of the playbill 2025/26, richly illustrated with original actor portraits by Thomas Rabsch, will be distributed free of charge at the box office and in the foyer of the Düsseldorf Schauspielhaus.
