Artists from Taiwan showcased at a peace-themed exhibition in Massachusetts
The Worcester Art Museum in Massachusetts is playing host to an exciting new exhibition titled "Lee Mingwei: Our Peaceable Kingdom". This thought-provoking display, which runs until February 1, 2023, is the brainchild of internationally acclaimed Taiwanese artist, Lee Mingwei.
Originally debuted at the Gropius Bau in Berlin in 2020, the exhibition has now made its way across the Atlantic. It features 42 paintings from a lineup of international artists, including Dario Escobar, Wura-Natasha Ogunji, Adrián Villar Rojas, and eight talented Taiwanese artists: Jeng Jundian, Huang Ko-wei, Jian Yi-hong, Yen Yu-ting, Yeh Tsai-wei, Hsiao Pei-i, Yuyu Chen, and Wu Ta-kuang.
The exhibition interweaves 19th-century folk painting, as represented by Edward Hicks' work Peaceable Kingdom, which is part of the museum's collection, with pluralistic views by artists from around the globe. The project has been expanded and now serves as a "family tree" of artists across boundaries and generations.
In addition to the stunning paintings, the exhibition also includes Lee Mingwei's participatory installations and performance projects that invite audiences to interact in open settings, exploring themes of trust, intimacy, and self-awareness.
On October 19, Lee Mingwei will give a talk at the museum about the show and the concept behind the project. This is an opportunity not to be missed for those interested in delving deeper into the artist's thought process and the meaning behind the exhibition.
The exhibition is supported by the Ministry of Culture in Taiwan and the US-based Fletcher Foundation. It invites visitors to ponder the nature of peace, not just on a global scale, but also what peace means to the city of Worcester.
Lee Mingwei's art has been exhibited at prestigious institutions worldwide, including the Mori Art Museum in Tokyo, Taipei Fine Arts Museum, Centre Pompidou in Paris, The Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York, Tate Modern in London, Gropius Bau, and the Art Gallery of New South Wales in Sydney.
Don't miss out on this unique opportunity to experience the thought-provoking and beautiful artworks of Lee Mingwei and his fellow artists at the Worcester Art Museum.
