Musician Bob Geldof, known for The Boomtown Rats, and author Sally Rooney, co-founder of Band Aid, were among the honorees at the Sky Arts Awards, held at London's Roundhouse on the night of Tuesday.

Artists Bob Geldof and Sally Rooney recognized at the Sky Arts Awards ceremony

The Sky Arts Awards 2025 honoured some of the most talented artists across various genres, recognizing their exceptional contributions to the world of arts.

Television and Breakthrough Talent

The Television category was a highlight of the night, with Netflix's series Adolescence taking home the award. The show's teenage star, Owen Cooper, was also recognised with The Times Breakthrough Award for his unbelievably chilling performance.

Lifetime Achievement and Literature

The evening saw the presentation of the Sky Arts Lifetime Achievement Award to Bob Geldof, a renowned singer, songwriter, author, and political activist. Geldof, best known for founding Band Aid and leading Live Aid, has been a tireless fighter against poverty. He was presented the award by Queen drummer Roger Taylor.

In the Literature category, Sally Rooney, author of the critically acclaimed Normal People, won for her latest book, Intermezzo, which was described as a "devastating exploration of grief." However, Rooney was unable to attend the ceremony.

Lola Young won the Popular Music category with her album This Wasn't Meant for You Anyway. In the Comedy category, Elf Lyons triumphed for her show Horses. Caleb Femi was the winner in the Poetry category for The Wickedest.

Theatre, Opera, Classical Music, and Visual Art

The Theatre category was won by LUNG for The Children's Inquiry. Opera North took home the award in the Opera category for Simon Boccanegra. Bold Tendencies won in the Classical Music category. Barbara Walker was the victor in the Visual Art category for Being Here.

Arts Hero and Dance

Diane Carroll was named the Arts Hero of 2025, while Nederland Dans Theatre and Complicité shared the award in the Dance category for Figures in Extinction.

The Sky Arts Awards 2025 was a night to remember, celebrating the best in arts and entertainment. The winners, each in their own right, have made significant contributions to their respective fields and continue to inspire and captivate audiences.
