Top Self-Syndicated Editorial Cartoonist Joe Heller Continues Successful Career

Joe Heller, a renowned editorial cartoonist, holds the distinction of being the most successful self-syndicated cartoonist in the United States. His work appears in over 400 newspapers across the nation and has earned him numerous awards.

Heller's career began in 1985 when he joined the Green Bay Press-Gazette as their editorial cartoonist. After a long and fruitful 28-year tenure, he was laid off in July 2013. Undeterred, Heller started his own syndicate, Heller Syndication, to distribute his cartoons nationwide.

Despite the setback, Heller's career has flourished. His cartoons have been reprinted in prestigious newspapers such as USA Today, The New York Times, The Washington Post, and The Los Angeles Times, to name a few. He has also been regularly featured in the NKyTribune.

Heller's accolades are impressive. He has won a total of 10 Best of Gannett awards, eight Milwaukee Press Club awards, and two Honorable mentions for the John Fischetti Award. These awards place him at the top rank for self-syndicated editorial cartoonists nationally.

Notably, while other prominent cartoonists like Pat Bagley are syndicated in even more newspapers, they are represented by larger syndicates like Cagle Cartoons, not self-syndicated. This further cements Heller's unique status.

In his personal life, Heller resides in Green Bay, Wis., with his wife, Pamela. His continued success in the face of adversity is a testament to his resilience and talent.
