German High Wire Artist Johann Traber Passes Away at 72

Johann Traber, a renowned member of Germany's famous Traber artistic family, known for their daring high wire stunts, has passed away at the age of 72. Traber's death was confirmed by his daughter.

Traber gained fame for his acts on the Zugspitze and Stuttgart TV Tower, setting multiple world records on motorcycles alongside his family. However, the Traber family's history is marred by two tragedies, the latest being the accident involving Traber's son, Johann Traber Jr., who fell from a 52-meter high wire in Hamburg in 2006, resulting in a six-week coma.

In 1996, another tragedy struck the family when Lutz Schreyer, another member of the Traber artistic family, fell from a height of approximately 16 meters during a performance in Baden-Baden and later passed away in the hospital. The death of Schreyer was not attributed to any fault on his or the Traber family's part, as determined by an expert. The prosecutor's office also dropped the case regarding Lutz Schreyer's death.

Traber had been battling a serious illness for the past eight years. No further information about the cause of his death was provided in the article. Traber will be laid to rest in his hometown of Breisach.

The Traber family, spanning generations, is known for their high wire stunts. They gained fame for their daring acts on various structures, including the Zugspitze and Stuttgart TV Tower. Despite the tragedies that have occurred, the family continues to captivate audiences with their death-defying performances.

Despite the lack of information about which family members were affected by the tragedies in Hamburg in 2006 and Baden-Baden in 1996, it is clear that the Traber family has faced two fatal accidents in their history, both related to high wire performances.

As we mourn the loss of Johann Traber, we remember his contributions to the world of high wire artistry and the impact he had on audiences around the globe. His legacy will live on, inspiring future generations of high wire artists.
