Arte France unveils bold new European series on history and science
Arte France is expanding its slate of bold European productions with a focus on historical and socially relevant stories. The broadcaster has announced several new series, including Hormones, a drama exploring the early days of female contraception in 1930s Netherlands.
CEO Bruno Patino emphasised the channel's mission to bridge different European cultures through ambitious storytelling. One of the standout projects is Hormones, co-produced with TOP - The Originals Productions. The series follows a German researcher's discovery of sex hormones and the creation of the world's first contraception pill. Written by Noé Debré and novelist Joachim Schnerf, it is set in the Netherlands during the 1930s, a period marked by scientific breakthroughs and shifting social norms.
Production on another Arte France series, Deux fois disparu, begins in May. Created by Mathieu Dong, Stéphane Bermans, and Benjamin Daoust, the project adds to the broadcaster's growing list of artistically driven works. Later in the year, filming will start on L'homme au manteau de sing, directed and co-written by Mathias Gokalp. This series delves into the true story of art forger Fernand Legros, with shooting scheduled for late summer or early autumn.
Arte France has also secured six series selections for Series Mania 2026, reinforcing its reputation for high-quality, culturally significant productions. Patino's vision centres on fostering a lasting exchange between Europe's creative voices, ensuring stories like these reach wider audiences. The new series from Arte France highlight its commitment to thought-provoking content rooted in European history. With productions spanning scientific discovery, art forgery, and social taboos, the broadcaster continues to push boundaries in television storytelling. These projects are set to premiere in the coming years, further establishing Arte's role in shaping contemporary European drama.
