A Football-Art Spectacle: Celebrating 60 Years of FC Hansa Rostock at the Kunsthalle

Art Hall Hosts Local Football Match: Celebrating 6 Decades of F.C. Hansa Rostock - Art Exhibition Transforms into F.C. Hansa Rostock's Home Field: 60th Anniversary Celebration

Get ready for an exceptional fusion of sports and arts as FC Hansa Rostock marks its 60th anniversary with a spectacular exhibit, "Rund und eckig... manchmal dreckig – 60 Jahre F.C. Hansa," invading the Kunsthalle Rostock till September 2025. This colossal showcase spanning over 2,000 square meters across two levels seamlessly intertwines football history and contemporary art.

Uwe Neumann, club chief, considers FC Hansa to be a cornerstone for the identity of Rostock and the region. He reminisces about his childhood excitement in the stadium and his subsequent tenure on the supervisory board during the mid-2000s. The club's impact on the post- Berlin Wall transformation process is also emphasized.

The ground floor exhibits trace the club's origin, highlighting the most memorable triumphs and setbacks. Iconic legends like Jürgen Heinsch, Timo Lange, and Rainer Jarohs are celebrated through words, images, and enthralling details. Jarohs, who holds the record for the most goals scored for Hansa, is mentioned by Hansa stadium announcer, Oliver Schubert, who is steeped in the club's history.

As we ascend to the second level, we find a poignant response to the question, "What's the connection between football and art?" Jan Thomaneck and Sebastian Kretzschmar's installation, "Passion rules the game," epitomizes the essence. This installation features original blue stadium seats mounted on a framework that moves rhythmically with air pressure, simulating the iconic La-Ola wave.

The exhibition also brushes upon the darker aspects of Hansa football. The section titled "Rowdys, Hooligans, Ultras" presents police reports and images of masked fans creating chaos, adorning a towering tapestry. "It's essential to show the unvarnished truth," emphasizes Neumann.

Truly, the exhibition is a treat for avid Hansa fans, as it depicts the club's rich history through various artistic mediums. With nearly 30,000 members, the gallery would be buzzing if every fan were to visit. In 2023, the art gallery hosted a visually striking exhibition dedicated to iconic German artist Udo Lindenberg, which drew a staggering 60,000 visitors.

As the exhibition oscillates between thrilling victories and tumultuous run-ins with the law, it not only retells the story of the football club but also showcases their cultural legacy. Currently, fourth in the 3rd League, FC Hansa is keen to regain their spot in the 2nd League, which they were relegated from during the 2023/24 season. This weekend's home game against city rivals and fifth-placed Energie Cottbus promises to be a nail-biting match.

A new film on FC Hansa will be released in cinemas in July, and the anniversary film "Unsinkable. 60 Years of FCH" will premiere mid-July. Fans contributed to a massive photo display, an eight-meter-high mural, showcasing stadium choreography and pyrotechnics. The display, along with snippets from the upcoming film, is part of the exhibit.
