In a captivating display of artistic expression, the Harburg Art Association is hosting the exhibition 'Detritus' by contemporary artist Lucy Beech. The exhibition, which opens on February 9, 2023, and runs until May 5, 2023, is part of a multi-part series in collaboration with the Edith-Russ-House for Media Art in Oldenburg and the Kunstinstituut Melly in Rotterdam.

'Detritus' is a showcase of Beech's work on the issue of waste in various forms. Her interest lies in 'waste streams', the creation, ignorance, handling, or analysis of waste in various forms. The central piece of the exhibition is a multi-channel video installation that reflects the chaotic, unbridled aspects of creative emergence.

The video installation, titled 'Detritus', mirrors the waste generated during film production. It carries creative waste on its tongue, reflecting the form and content as a collection of decayed material and debris. Some visual material in the installation occupies all three channels, while others are collaged on separate screens, creating a dynamic and immersive experience for viewers.

The video installation fluctuates between a theatrical piece, a reading, a cinematic narrative, and a process of creative waste management. It is a testament to Beech's innovative approach to art, blending various mediums to create a thought-provoking commentary on the issue of waste.

Each exhibition in the series focuses on different aspects of Beech's collaborative and research-based practice. The Harburg Art Association exhibition is a part of this ongoing series, offering visitors a unique opportunity to engage with Beech's work.

Lucy Beech is a recognised finalist for the CIRCA Prize 2025, further testament to her active engagement in current art scenes. Her work challenges us to reconsider our relationship with waste, encouraging us to reflect on the dilemma that film production waste is discarded.

Visitors to 'Detritus' at the Harburg Art Association will be invited to engage with this thought-provoking exhibition, and to reflect on the issue of waste in our society. Don't miss this opportunity to experience Beech's innovative approach to art, and to engage with an important contemporary issue.
