Art dealer Victoria Miro marks four decades in business by highlighting the artists who have defined its legacy.
Celebrating 40 Years of Artistic Excellence:
Victoria Miro, a legendary figure in the art world, is throwing a bash to commemorate her gallery's 40th anniversary. The extravaganza, cleverly titled "Victoria Miro: 40 Years", will take place from the 6th of June to the 1st of August 2025, right smack in the heart of London's artistic hub. Spread across her stunning Hoxton space, the gallery is staying true to its roots, with both the main gallery and the adjoining viewing gallery hosting the festivities.
Prepare to be spellbound by a rainbow of artistic styles and mediums as Victoria Miro invites some of her dearest artist friends to join the party. Expect mesmerizing works from the likes of Njideka Akunyili Crosby, known for her intricate mixed-media paintings, and Flora Yukhnovich, famous for her large-scale, abstract canvas explosions.
Elmgreen & Dragset, the Danish-Norwegian conceptual artist duo, will probably shake things up with their signature provocative pieces. Behold Chris Ofili's vibrant, thought-provoking masterpieces. Chantal Joffe, a British painter who's been Miro's trusted ally for over two decades, is creating a new self-portrait for the occasion.
The party won't lack danger and mystery, thanks to the ethereal dreamlike watercolors on linen by Maria Berrio, or the ghostly introspection in Celia Paul's portraits. Prepare to be moved by Wangechi Mutu's sculptures crafted from soil, wood, porcelain, and bone. Doug Aitken, with his innovative use of materials, will surely dazzle us with his high-density foam, steel, and acid-etched mirror creations.
Grayson Perry, the British artist known for his glazed ceramics and alter ego, Claire, will leave you questioning the nature of identity again. Yayoi Kusama's immersive, colorful installations and Paula Rego's narrative paintings will round out the party.
