Arsenal's campaign for the Premier League title ends in disappointment under manager Arteta

Arsenal's late-season title challenge took a major hit after Liverpool sealed their Premier League win in style, leaving the Gunners licking their wounds in the runners-up spot for the third year in a row.

With a thumping 5-1 victory over Tottenham at Anfield, Liverpool extended their lead over Arsenal to an insurmountable margin with just four games remaining. The heartbreaking defeat serves as another excruciating reminder of Arsenal's failure to capture the coveted League trophy since 2004.

In the wake of Liverpool's triumph, Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta offered his commendation to Jurgen Klopp's men for their impressive, consistent performance throughout the season. However, the Spaniard couldn't hide his disappointment, admitting that watching Liverpool's triumph was "painful."

"Don't get me wrong, they're a team with a lot of quality and they deserve their success," said Arteta during a press conference. "But it still hurts."

Arteta went on to acknowledge Liverpool's dominance, citing their consistency, depth, and defensive solidity as the key factors that propelled them to the summit.

"They have everything it takes to win it," he admitted. "But it's tough to watch them reap the rewards while Arsenal continues to fall short."

Despite the setback, Arteta remains optimistic about Arsenal's chances next season. While they won't have the opportunity to overtake Man City in the 2022-23 campaign, the Spaniard is determined to mount a more formidable challenge the following year.

"We gave it our all, but the title just slipped through our fingers once again," he mused. "We'll pick ourselves up, regroup, and come back stronger next season."

Arsenal's quest for glory has been hampered by a string of injuries this season. With six first-team players still on the sidelines and Thomas Partey serving a suspension, the Gunners have been left with a severely depleted squad.

"I wouldn't wish this on any manager," lamented Arteta. "To walk into the dressing room and see Takehiro Tomiyasu, Riccardo Calafiori, Gabriel Magalhaes, Thomas Partey, Kai Havertz, and Gabriel Jesus all injured – it's heart-wrenching."

Despite the adversity, Arteta hailed the resilience of his team, praising their efforts and positive attitude in the face of overwhelming odds. "These guys are fighters," he said. "They're not giving up, and I'm incredibly proud of them for that."

As the squad gears up for their match against mid-table Bournemouth this weekend, Arteta has set his sights on a second-place finish as the minimum goal for the season. Currently five points clear of third-place Newcastle with four games to play, Arsenal is well on track to secure a Champions League berth for next season.
