Arsenal faces two setbacks involving player Eberechi Eze, as Crystal Palace confirms firm decision concerning him
In a major transfer shakeup, Eberechi Eze has left Crystal Palace for Arsenal this summer, in a deal reportedly worth around £67.5 million. The transfer was officially completed and announced in late August 2025.
The move comes after Eze's release clause in his Crystal Palace contract expired last week. However, Eze did not wait for the expiration of the clause and was transferred before any interested party, including Arsenal, could opt to trigger it with a bid meeting the valuation.
Crystal Palace's manager, Oliver Glasner, and chairman Steve Parish, confirmed Eze's departure and praised his contributions at the club. Arsenal secured the signing ahead of their rivals Tottenham Hotspur, completing the deal shortly before the start of the 2025/26 season.
Eze, who had been in Arsenal's youth system years earlier, is now returning to the Emirates Stadium as a key first-team signing. This transfer marks a record sale for Crystal Palace during the current summer transfer window.
It is worth noting that Eze was a crucial figure in Crystal Palace's recent success. He has been impressive for five seasons at Selhurst Park, contributing significantly to the club's FA Cup victory over Manchester City in May 2022.
Moreover, Eze was expected to be front and centre of Crystal Palace's European journey this season, as the club participates in European competition for the first time following their FA Cup win. Crystal Palace's 2022/23 European competition will take place at Selhurst Park.
The expiration of Eze's release clause and Glasner's comments may complicate any future attempt by Arsenal to sign the player this summer. Eze will play in the Community Shield match this weekend, as Crystal Palace takes on Liverpool at Wembley Stadium.
