In a significant development, Canada has announced its plans to deliver multiple Leopard 2 tanks to Ukraine, marking a potential boost to Ukraine's military capabilities amidst ongoing conflicts. However, as of June 2025, Canada has not directly provided Leopard 2 tanks to Ukraine.

Anita Anand, Canada's Minister of Defence, made the announcement on Twitter, sharing a photo of a storage tank being unloaded from an airplane. The tweet stated that Canada will continue to #StandWithUkraine and reiterated the country's commitment to supporting Ukraine.

While Canada has provided armoured vehicles such as the Bison and Coyote reconnaissance vehicles, the Leopard 2 tank remains absent from their latest military aid package to Ukraine. Instead, Canada is focusing on providing other armoured vehicles, electronic warfare gear, and supporting Ukraine with advanced pilot training, notably F-16 jets, and reconnaissance capabilities.

Despite the lack of direct Leopard 2 tank delivery, Canada has expressed its intention to train the Ukrainian Armed Forces in the use of these tanks. Canadian Armed Forces members will accompany the tanks to a third country for training purposes, where Ukrainian soldiers will learn to operate and maintain the Leopard 2 tanks.

The arrival of the first tank in Poland, while not in Ukraine, signifies a step towards this training. The Leopard 2 tanks are German-made, and Germany, along with the USA, has announced plans to deliver multiple tanks to Ukraine. Poland has also contacted Germany to allow additional nations, including Canada, to deliver Leopard 2 tanks to Ukraine.

It is important to note that the tanks will not see immediate battle, as they will first undergo training. The training process is expected to take place in a third country, ensuring the safety and effectiveness of the Ukrainian forces using these advanced tanks.

This international effort to aid Ukraine in their battle against Russian pressures is a testament to the global solidarity in supporting Ukraine's sovereignty. While Canada's direct delivery of Leopard 2 tanks remains pending, the country's commitment to training Ukrainian forces and providing other forms of military assistance is clear.
