Arrestee connected to Maddie case now using leg braces after being released on bail

In a development that has sent shockwaves through the world, a German citizen suspected of being involved in the disappearance of three-year-old British girl Madeleine McCann in 2007, has been released from prison and placed under house arrest.

The suspect, whose identity remains undisclosed, was released from prison in the Lower Saxony town of Sehnde, and will be required to wear an ankle monitor for the next five years. The conditions of his release were first reported by Spiegel and include regular contact with a probation officer, approval required before changing residence, and a fine or imprisonment of up to three years if the conditions are violated.

The Braunschweig public prosecutor's office, which is handling the investigation into the Maddie case, announced in June 2020 that they assume Madeleine McCann is dead and have identified a suspect. The German investigation is being conducted due to the suspect's last known address being in Braunschweig.

The suspect served a prison sentence in 2019, primarily for aggravated sexual assault, but no charges have been filed in the Maddie case. The presumption of innocence still applies, and the suspect's defense lawyers have announced they will challenge the imposed conditions.

The public prosecutor's office has confirmed the above details upon request. The suspect's lawyer has publicly spoken of a "massive pre-trial campaign" in response to the suspicions.

This latest development in the Maddie case, which has captured global attention for over a decade, comes as a significant turning point. However, it is important to remember that the case is still ongoing, and the quest for justice for Madeleine McCann continues.
