Latest Crackdown on Mahmuda Group: A Splinter Faction of Boko Haram Terrorists
Arrested Twelve Individuals Suspected as Terrorists by the Nigerian Military in Kwara
Kicking 'Mahmuda' out of the northern Kwara State's Kainji Lake National Park is the new mission for the Nigerian Army. Major General Obinna Onubogu, the GOC of 2 Division, confirmed the arrest of 12 individuals linked to this Boko Haram splinter group during a recent visit to military installations in Baruten and Kaiama Local Government Areas.
Apparently, Mahmuda has taken over the Kainji Lake National Park, causing fear and instability in nearby communities in Kwara and Niger States. Their illicit activities have disrupted local social and economic life, making residents' lives a living nightmare.
During the visit, the GOC emphasized the determination of the troops in cleansing the park of these insurgents and restoring order. They aim to eliminate all criminal activities within the park and rebuild confidence among the residents.
The counter-insurgency operation, code-named 'Park Strike Four', appears to be bearing fruit. The captured suspects include two confirmed members of the armed group and ten suspected accomplices. The troops have searched over 90 km deep into the Kainji forest, where their stronghold is believed to be.
The Nigerian government has praised the efforts of the officers and personnel involved, expressing satisfaction with the advancements made so far in displacing the bandits and other criminal factions.
The 2 Division of the Nigerian Army has been ordered by the Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Olufemi Olatunbosun Oluyede, to scour border communities within Kwara and Niger States, including the Kainji Lake Forest. This move aims to eliminate any armed groups that threaten the peace and security of the region's civilians.
It's worth noting that Mahmuda is believed to be affiliated with Boko Haram, although the exact nature of their connection is yet to be clarified. fingers point towards a possible link with Darul Salam, another Boko Haram-tied group.
