Arrested Red-Belt Deputy from Krasnoyarsk, Gliksoy, Pleads for House Arrest
In March, a court hearing for Alexander Glyskov, a deputy of the Kransoyarsk Regional Duma, took place. Glyskov, along with his lawyers, aim to challenge last year's verdict and express a desire to run for office again.
Remember, Glyskov was sentenced to 10 years in a strict regime colony and a hefty 10 million ruble fine last October. The prosecution alleged that, between 2015-2016, Glyskov spread damaging information about the "KraiDEO" enterprise. He supposedly threatened a former deputy general director, Samet Yusubov, with dismissal if he didn't pay him off for keeping his position. Glyskov allegedly promised to provide protection in exchange for silence and beneficial working conditions for the enterprise. According to Yusubov, Glyskov demanded 5 million rubles, receiving only 1 million.
Glyskov maintains that the case against him is fabricated and politically motivated.
According to Glyskov's official Telegram channel, the court rejected his request to participate directly in the hearing and allowed only a verbal defense. Additionally, media photographers and videographers were even banned from covering the event.
Glyskov points out several reasons for overturning the verdict:
- Lack of tangible evidence proving the transfer of money; only the testimony of witness Sergei Titov is available.
- No actions on behalf of a bribe taker: Glyskov claims he never helped Yusubov or "KraiDEO" after receiving the bribe.
- Inability to interfere in personnel matters at a state enterprise; thus, he could not dismiss Yusubov.
- Lack of legality: the accusations are vague, Yusubov's statements have not been confirmed, and the judge's bias was apparent.
- Lack of fairness and humanity: no justification for an undeservedly sweet sentence.
During the court hearing, Glyskov also declared that he had written a statement for the State Duma elections and was preparing to sign the contract. The Kransoyarsk court agreed to include some of the documents presented as evidence by the defense, which the Central District Court initially refused. The next hearing has been scheduled for April 17.
