Arrested individual connected to Maddie case is spotted using leg support devices post-release

The suspect in the high-profile Madeleine McCann case, German national Christian B., has been released from prison in Lower Saxony's Sehnde after serving a seven-year sentence for aggravated rape. Despite the release, the suspect remains under investigation in connection with the disappearance of Madeleine McCann, a three-year-old British girl who vanished from an apartment complex in Praia da Luz, Portugal, on May 3, 2007.

The Braunschweig public prosecutor's office confirmed that Christian B. was wearing an ankle monitor when he left prison. The surveillance measure is not a punishment, but a rehabilitation and prevention measure, according to the Lower Saxony Ministry of Justice.

The suspect is required to wear the ankle monitor for the next five years. He must also maintain regular contact with his probation officer at least once a month, inform the court in advance if he changes his place of residence or stay, and obtain approval.

The investigations in the Madeleine McCann case are being conducted by German investigators, as Christian B.'s last place of residence was in Braunschweig. The Braunschweig public prosecutor's office announced in June 2020 that they assume Madeleine is dead and have a suspect. However, no indictment has been made in the case, and the presumption of innocence still applies to Christian B.

The defense attorney for the suspect spoke of a "massive pre-trial campaign" in view of the suspicions. The defense lawyers have announced that they will challenge the conditions set by the Hildesheim Regional Court. If the suspect violates the conditions, a fine or imprisonment of up to three years may be imposed.

It is important to note that Christian B. is a multiple convicted sex offender. The presumption of innocence still applies to him in the Madeleine McCann case. The German authorities consider him dangerous, but no charges have been brought against him yet in this case.

The Madeleine McCann case remains one of the most high-profile missing person cases in recent history, and the investigation continues to be a focus for law enforcement agencies worldwide.
