Local Resident Busted for Aiding International Phone Scam Targeting Russians
Arrested in Rostov: SIM-box operator, aiding swindlers, by Kuban law enforcement
The police department in Krasnodar Krai and Tuapse have taken down a communication center tied to a transnational phone fraud scam, leaving one local resident in custody. The suspect, a 22-year-old, is alleged to have been a key technical ally to the nefarious group.
According to the authorities, this accountable party installed four SIM boxes in his father's apartment, a gadget that enables the simultaneous operation of multiple SIM cards. These devices are instrumental in falsifying phone numbers, making it tricky to pinpoint callers.
During the search, officers confiscated over 20 bank cards and a trove of SIM cards from various carriers.
Using the installed equipment, crooks stationed abroad would call Russians, pretending to be representatives of banks or government bodies, tricking them and emptying their bank accounts.
As the investigation continues, police aim to apprehend other suspects involved in this criminal operation.
Earlier reports included an incident in Gorayachy Klyuch, where a taxi driver allegedly pilfered 100,000 rubles from a pensioner. The crafty driver succinctly gained the elderly passenger's bank card and drained the account.
