Arrested for alleged involvement in intelligence work and affiliation with the foreign extremist group known as 'Donetsk People's Republic (DPRK)'

In a significant development, German-Russian nationals Dieter S. and Alexander J. were arrested by the Federal Criminal Police Office in Bayreuth on April 17, 2024. The arrests were made in connection with allegations of endangering security, espionage, and terrorist activities.

The investigating judge of the Federal Court of Justice will hear Dieter S.'s case on April 18, 2024. Alexander J., who is suspected of assisting Dieter S. from March 2024, will likely face separate proceedings.

Dieter S. is accused of several serious offences, including endangering security by depicting military installations, membership in a foreign terrorist organization, and the preparation of a serious act of violence endangering the state. He is also charged with espionage for the purpose of sabotage and conspiring to cause an explosion using explosives and arson.

According to the available information, Dieter S. scouted targeted objects, taking photos and videos of military transports and equipment. He is also suspected of having gathered information about potential targets, including facilities used by the US military, and exchanging this information with a person connected to a Russian intelligence agency since at least October 2023.

The collected information was then transmitted to his contact person. Dieter S. is further accused of offering to carry out explosions and arson attacks, specifically on military infrastructure and industrial sites in Germany. The aim of these actions was to undermine the military support provided by Germany to Ukraine against the Russian invasion.

The arrest warrants for Dieter S. and Alexander J. were issued by the investigating judge of the Federal Court of Justice on April 9 and 11, 2024, respectively. The residences and workplaces of the suspects were searched in connection with the arrests.

The Bavarian State Criminal Police Office provided support in the arrests. These events occurred in Karlsruhe. It's important to note that the platform involved in these alleged activities remains unspecified.
