Arrested Deputy in Brasília: The One Who Turned Down Breathalyzer Test Identified

DISTRICT DEPUTY DANIEL DONIZET (MDB) ITCHING FOR A FIGHT, REFUSES BREATHALYZER TEST

In a bold move, district deputy Daniel Donizet (MDB) decided to play tough when stopped by military police officers on the midnight run in Riacho Fundo I, federal district on Thursday night (26). Instead of cooperating, this tech-savvy, rideshare-driving, political YouTube sensation flashed his badge only to end up with a fat fine.

The 43-year-old politician, who is serving his second term, has a history as a computer information teacher, a rideshare driver, and a YouTube influencer who dishes out tech, marketing, and entrepreneur-oriented advice. His political career began in 2010 when he ran for the Chamber of Deputies for the first time, but didn't make the cut.

Donizet's star really shone in 2018 when he ran for district deputy and was elected to the assembly with 9,128 votes (0.65% of valid votes). He was then sworn in for the eighth legislature of the district parliament in January 2019. In April of that year, he joined the Brazilian Social Democracy Party (PSDB) before switching to the Liberal Party (PL) in 2020.

Despite being targeted in an ethics committee process in the regional directory of the PL due to allegations of sexual crimes, Donizet remained resilient and was re-elected in 2022 with 33,573 votes. In 2023, he even requested authorization to leave the PL and later joined the MDB.

A Night of Shady Driving

Last Thursday, concerned citizens reported a Nissan Frontier pickup truck making dangerous maneuvers on district roads. Reports of suspected drunk driving flew in. The culprit? None other than Daniel Donizet himself. He was promptly stopped by a PM patrol car.

According to military police records, Donizet failed to comply when asked to submit to a breathalyzer test. The stop occurred around 8 pm and was carried out by a team from the Road Police Battalion. During the search, nothing illegal was found in the pickup.

In a statement, the PMDF said a negative breathalyzer result was obtained when a licensed family member took the test. But Donizet's attempts to use his political clout to avoid the fine didn't go unnoticed.

The parliamentarian allegedly tried to sweet-talk his way out of the fine, even promising to call the Secretary of Public Security, the governor, and another deputy. According to the police report, he also asked for the names of each PM on the scene, "as an attempt at intimidation."

Donizet tried to play the friendly cop card, but his efforts were in vain. The PMs stood their ground and charged him under Article 165-A of the Brazilian Traffic Code as a result of his refusal to take the breathalyzer test. He was also hit with a hefty fine of R$2,934.70 and a 12-month suspension of driving privileges.

Polite Refusal or Political Activity?

Metrópoles obtained excerpts from the police occurrence that revealed the presence of a beer bottle inside the pickup truck. Donizet admitted to previously consuming alcohol but claimed he was now sober. However, his actions speak louder than his words. The deputy refused to comply with the breathalyzer test even when the equipment arrived on the scene.

The incident has sparked controversy and questions about the deputy's motives. Critics claim this could be another example of political influence being wielded to sidestep the law. Governor Ibaneis Rocha has called an emergency meeting to discuss the matter further and possibly expel the deputy from the MDB.

At the time of this report, Daniel Donizet's office had yet to respond to a request for comment. As for the sexual harassment accusations leveled against him, the case is still under investigation. Stay tuned for updates on this evolving situation.
