Taliban frees British pair detained in Afghanistan during February - Arrested British couple, held in Afghanistan since February, released by the Taliban.

Ryan Reynolds and Barbara Reunited with Family After Taliban Detention

In a relief-filled moment, the British couple, Lindsay and Barbara Reynolds, were released from Taliban detention in Afghanistan and are now on their way to Doha, Qatar. The couple, who are Afghan citizens, expressed gratitude and relief following their release.

The Reynolds family, who had been deeply concerned about their health due to their poor condition following their arrest, are overwhelmed with joy. They thanked the Qatari mediators for their role in securing their release.

The Reynolds, who married in Kabul in 1970 and lived in Afghanistan for 18 years, remained in the country even after the Taliban took power in August 2021. Their determination to stay was not swayed by the withdrawal of British embassy staff.

The couple's release was facilitated by Qatari mediation. The mediators, who were officials from Qatar, facilitated negotiations between the Taliban and the British government. The Reynolds' release came after they completed a legal process, having been detained for violating 'Afghan laws'.

Independent UN human rights experts had called on the Taliban government to release the pair in late July. Their release comes as a significant step towards upholding human rights in the region.

The Reynolds are looking forward to seeing their children again. They also plan to return to Afghanistan if possible, demonstrating their deep-rooted connection to the country.

Their American friend, Faye Hall, was released in March. The pair had been detained in February in Afghanistan. Despite the challenges they faced, the Reynolds continued their humanitarian work, establishing their own aid organization and conducting training programs in Afghanistan.

The Reynolds stated that they were treated well during their detention. Their resilience and dedication to their cause, even in the face of adversity, serve as an inspiration to many.
