Arrested at BUET, the student found guilty in Sony's murder, is now in police custody following the discovery of a loaded revolver and bullets in his possession.

Md Mushfique Uddin Tagar, one of the convicted murderers in the 2002 Buet student Sabekun Nahar Sony's case, was arrested in the Azimpur area of the capital. This arrest comes after years of evasion and was confirmed on an unspecified date.

Tagar was initially sentenced to death along with two others in the Sony murder case on 29 June 2003. However, the High Court commuted their death sentences to life imprisonment on 10 March 2006.

The details of Tagar's arrest are yet to be disclosed, but a press conference regarding the arrest is scheduled for tomorrow, 19 September. The press conference will provide more information about the events leading to Tagar's arrest and the current status of the case.

It is important to note that a total of four convicts, including Tagar, are currently in jail in connection with the Sony murder case. Two other convicts, Mokammel and Nurul, are absconding.

The clash that led to Sony's death occurred on 8 June 2002 between two groups of Buet Chhatra Dal, the student wing of the then ruling party BNP, within the campus. The incident generated nationwide attention due to the notorious precedent of murdering a female student in campus violence.

Sony died as a result of a bullet injury she sustained during the clash. A revolver and 156 rounds of bullets were recovered from Tagar's possession during his arrest.

This development in the case comes as a significant step towards bringing justice for Sony and her family. The press conference tomorrow will provide further insights into the case and the ongoing efforts to apprehend the remaining fugitive convicts.
