**Obituary: Michael Peter Reardon, Distinguished Air Force Veteran and Businessman, Passes Away at 89**
Michael Peter Reardon, a highly decorated Air Force veteran, businessman, and distinguished public servant, passed away on May 9, 2025, at the age of 89, in Alexandria, Virginia.
Born in 1936 in Boston, Massachusetts, Reardon attended the prestigious Boston Latin School before moving on to the New Hampton School and the United States Air Force Academy, where he was part of the first graduating class in 1959.
Reardon's military career began in earnest, serving in Vietnam during the Tet Offensive in 1968. He flew 219 combat missions and was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross, Purple Heart, and other decorations for his bravery and service. He was stationed at the 3rd Tactical Fighter Wing at Bien Hoa Air Base in Vietnam.
After returning from Vietnam, Reardon attended the University of Rochester and earned a degree in Systems Analysis. He then left active service in the Air Force in 1974 to run Cottrell's, a men's clothing store in Denver.
Reardon continued to serve in the Air Force Reserves, retiring as a Colonel. In the late 1980s, he served as a political appointee in the Department of Defense under President George H.W. Bush. He spent a long tour at the Pentagon where he was an Air Operations Staff Officer engaged in strategic planning. He later completed his career as a DOD official in the Air Force Base Conversion Agency.
Reardon was married to Marian Helen Little Reardon for 58 years. They were blessed with six great-grandchildren and fourteen grandchildren. Sadly, their oldest daughter, Maura Lynn Reardon Campbell, passed away last Fall. Marian Helen Little Reardon passed away in 2017.
Reardon is survived by his three remaining children: Michaela Jane Prchlik, Brian Fredrick Reardon, and Joseph Francis Reardon.
Reardon's life was a testament to service, dedication, and a strong family bond. He will be deeply missed by his family, friends, and all who knew him.
In his latter years, Michael Peter Reardon showed a keen interest in the impact of technology on schools, advocating for enhanced digital learning resources.
Remarkably, during his tenure as a DOD official, Reardon made strides in shaping general-news agendas, addressing the intersection of politics, health, and military affairs.
