Los Angeles Chargers Linebacker Denzel Perryman Released Without Charges Following Weapons Arrest

Denzel Perryman, a linebacker for the Los Angeles Chargers, was arrested on Saturday, August 1, 2025, following a traffic stop by the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department's South Los Angeles station. The incident occurred at approximately 9:30 p.m.

The traffic stop was initiated due to vehicle code violations. During the stop, five firearms, including two assault-style rifles, were discovered in Perryman's vehicle. He was arrested and booked on weapons violation charges.

Perryman, 32, was cooperative with deputies during the traffic stop. Following his arrest, he was held without bail at the sheriff's South Los Angeles station.

However, by August 5, 2025, Perryman was released without facing criminal charges. The Los Angeles County District Attorney's Office decided not to file charges after reviewing the case. As a result, Perryman's record will show a detention but not a formal arrest, and his court appearance scheduled for August 6, 2025, was canceled.

Denzel Perryman has had a successful career in the NFL, having been drafted by the San Diego Chargers in 2015 and playing six seasons with the franchise before brief periods with the Las Vegas Raiders and Houston Texans. He returned to the Chargers before the 2024 season, starting 11 games and serving as a defensive captain. He was expected to be a starter for the Chargers in the upcoming 2025 season.

The Chargers organization stated they were gathering information but have taken no public disciplinary action pending due process. Chargers coach Jim Harbaugh expressed support for Perryman during the incident, noting Perryman's good character and family life.

The arrest and discovery of the rifles are under investigation by the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department. No further details about the incident, including any potential legal proceedings, have been disclosed yet.

Denzel Perryman played college football for the University of Miami before being drafted by the Los Angeles Chargers in the second round of the 2015 NFL draft. In his 10-year NFL career, he has amassed 717 tackles, along with seven-and-a-half sacks and five interceptions.

Despite Denzel Perryman's arrest and the discovery of several firearms during a traffic stop, the Los Angeles County District Attorney's Office decided not to file charges against him. This incident, while raising concerns in the realm of crime and justice, did not lead to formal charges or a conviction for Perryman.

Interestingly, this incident did not seem to affect Perryman's football career significantly, as he is expected to resume his role as a starter for the Los Angeles Chargers in the upcoming season. His successful NFL career so far, including his college football days at the University of Miami, speaks volumes about his talent in sports, particularly football.
