Arrest of an Alleged Ballot Buyer with ₦25.9 Million Cash in Kaduna by Secret Service Agents

In a significant development, a man named Shehu Aliyu Patangi was arrested by the Kaduna State Police Command and the Department of State Services (DSS), along with other security agencies, at around 3:30 a.m. on August 16, 2025, at a popular hotel along Turunku Road in Kaduna metropolis.

During the joint operation, the security operatives recovered a substantial sum of ₦25,963,000 from the suspect. According to reports, the money was allegedly intended to be used as bribes for eligible voters in the upcoming bye-election for the Chikun/Kajuru Federal Constituency.

Shehu Aliyu Patangi confessed to the allegations during interrogation, admitting that the money was indeed meant for bribing voters. The suspect pleaded for leniency, but the police commissioner, CP Rabiu Muhammad, made it clear that anyone attempting to compromise the electoral process would face severe consequences.

CP Rabiu Muhammad commended the collaborative effort of the security agencies and reiterated his commitment to a free, fair, and credible election in Kaduna. He urged eligible voters to participate peacefully without fear or intimidation.

Security has been tightened across key areas in Kaduna to ensure the integrity of the electoral process. The authorities are committed to protecting lives, property, and the electoral process in the state. The police also reiterated their call for a peaceful election, urging voters to exercise their rights without fear or intimidation.
