Arrest Made under Questionable Circumstances, as No Witnesses Were Present During Apprehension of the Mayor
In the heart of Russia, a high-profile court case has led to the detainment of Krasnoyarsk's Mayor, now identified as Vladislav Loginov, until August 4. The arrest occurred in Krasnoyarsk on June 8, and he was shortly transferred to Moscow following the hearing. The Investigative Committee of Russia (ICR) implicated him for bribery worth 180 million rubles from the head of a company involved in road repairs in the regional center.
The Basmanny Court of Moscow started contemplating ICR's Main Investigative Directorate's request for a detention measure for Vladislav Loginov on June 10. The court session commenced around 1 p.m., but the essential documents were delivered as early as 11 a.m.
Appearing calm in court, Loginov had a state-appointed lawyer, Ekaterina Pisarevskaya, representing his interests. It seems that either Loginov or his relatives hadn't yet contracted with any of her colleagues.
The proceeding opened with the standard identity confirmation of the defendant. It was revealed that Loginov is currently charged with two counts of receiving large-scale bribes (part 6 of article 290 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation; up to 15 years in prison), and legal proceedings have already been initiated against him. Notably, he remains the Mayor of Krasnoyarsk and the ICR's Main Investigative Directorate requested a one-month-and-twenty-six-day custody period for Loginov, until August 4.
The presiding judge, Boris Safarin, suggested submitting motions, with the representative of the investigative body being the first. They requested a closed session to protect confidential criminal case materials, which the judge granted. After deliberation, journalists returned to the courtroom to find the decision: Vladislav Loginov would remain in pre-trial detention until August 4.
