Arrest Made in Minnesota Political Shootings: Suspect Vance Boelter Linked to Double Murder

Arrest made over suspected US politician murder case

In the chilling aftermath of the shooting rampage on Minnesota Democratic politicians, the perpetrator, Vance Boelter, a 57-year-old imposter impersonating a police officer, has been apprehended. Governor Tim Walz confirmed the arrest during a press conference.

The malicious attacker targeted US Senator John Hoffman and his wife, injuring them, and later went on to kill Representative Melissa Hortman and her husband. An hour and a half separated the two attacks.

Police Discover Suspect's Hit List and Manifesto

In the gunfight near Hortman's residence, the attacker managed to evade capture but was later apprehended through the seizure of his vehicle, a police SUV look-alike. Law enforcement stated that the vehicle housed Boelter's list of potential targets - over 70 Minnesota Democrats - and a chilling manifesto[4].

Boelter had connections to evangelical groups and purported to be a security expert with a history in the Gaza Strip and Africa. Moreover, he had contacts with radical anti-abortion groups[1]. Governor Tim Walz denounced the act as "targeted political violence," and US President Donald Trump voiced his condemnation of the attack.

The Increasing Political Tensions in the US

The climate of politicking in the US has grown heated, with the 2024 presidential campaign witnessing an assassination attempt on then-Republican candidate Donald Trump. In April 2025, the residence of Democratic Pennsylvania Governor Josh Shapiro was the target of an arson attack. In 2022, the husband of then-US House Speaker Nancy Pelosi was viciously attacked with a hammer in their home, leaving him seriously injured[5].
