Investigators described the attacker as wearing a mask and pretending to be a law enforcement officer. His vehicle was said to have been altered. On Sunday, the police stumbled upon his suspected vehicle near his residence in Green Isle - it even bore a cowboy hat that may have belonged to him. US authorities had announced a $50,000 reward. Investigators urged the public for leads - over 400 offers poured in.
Some 100 officers, including special units, were vigilantly scouring for the suspect. The police used an emergency app to alert residents: Lock doors and cars! Eventually, investigators found the abandoned dark sedan on a dirt road. It was towed away, and officers searched the surrounding woods.
