Arrest Made Following Deadly Explosion in Pattani

Let's dive into the latest scoop from Pattani, the southernmost border province. The authorities have nabbed a suspect, hunting for answers after a roadside blast left four army rangers, a civilian, and the suspect's own life in jeopardy.

The drama unfolded in Na Phrao village 2, tambon Panare, where security forces, like a swarm of ants, descended on the scene in about ten vehicles early Tuesday morning. Cordoning off the area, they decided to question a local man, Sukifli, aged 38 and employed as a laborer[2].

Sukifli was hauled off for questioning at Panare police station before being whisked away for further scrutiny at Inkhayuthaborihan military camp.

The wheels of chaos began to turn just a day prior, about 9:30 AM on Monday, when a home-brewed bomb, buried beneath the road surface, detonated alongside Highway 4157. As paramilitaries from Ranger Company 4214 were leaving the area after community activities, their vehicle was obliterated off the road and overturned[3].

The blast claimed the life of Lt. Apichart Phaphan, 39, and left Sgt. Sulkifli Maiding, 45; ranger volunteer Praidae Yusor, 33; ranger volunteer Masufi Waete, 28 and a local man named Masofi Porha, who was driving a passing pickup, injured.

Investigators speculate that the bomb was a homemade explosive hidden within a gas cylinder.

The impact of the blast left a significant crater in the road and scattered shrapnel across the area. The overturned army truck finally came to rest approximately 20 meters from the blast site.

Upon investigating the scene, authorities found what appeared to be evidence of the bomb, and the investigation continues[3].
