Around-the-clock security of Mafia assassins, as detailed in our interview with the prosecutor.

Jürgen Gremmelmaier, a former prosecutor in Karlsruhe, found himself in the crosshairs of the Italian mafia in 1993, during his investigations into organized crime activities. The mafia's threats against Gremmelmaier, who was based in his hometown of Niefern, were so severe that he required the protection of bodyguards due to the mafia's targeting.

In an interview given after the events, Gremmelmaier spoke about these extraordinary times. Through covert investigations, his team had uncovered a plot to assassinate someone, commissioned by the target. The assassins were to travel from Italy, and a pizza baker provided the weapon, which had a silencer.

The commissioner and his arms supplier were eventually sentenced to prison terms, but the threats against Gremmelmaier did not cease. In fact, a letter threatening him with death was received after the hitmen were sentenced to prison terms.

Despite the ongoing threats, Gremmelmaier's work continued, underscoring the resilience of legal institutions against criminal pressures. Today, he is 54 years old and serves on the municipal council of Niefern-Öschelbronn for the Free Voters' Association (FWV). Prior to his political career, Gremmelmaier served as deputy head of the office at the General Prosecutor's Office in Karlsruhe for eight years.

The mafia was angered by Gremmelmaier's actions in securing the weapon and the hitmen's arrest, but their attempts to intimidate him were ultimately unsuccessful. Gremmelmaier's story serves as a reminder of the risks faced by officials combating organized crime and the importance of their continued efforts to protect justice and uphold the law.

Gremmelmaier's investigations into organized crime activities in 1993, which involved Politics and General-News, led him to uncover a plot in Crime-and-Justice, as the mafia planned an assassination. Despite the threats and ongoing intimidation, Gremmelmaier's work remained resilient, highlighting his commitment to upholding the law and serving justice, even in the face of danger.
