Stuttgart's City Center Transforms into a Winter Wonderland Vereinschaftete Stalls, glühwein, and twinkling lights will once again liven up Stuttgart's downtown area in the coming weeks, drawing an estimated million folks. Kickstarting from November 29 (next week's Wednesday), Stuttgart's grandest south-western Christmas market is intent on spreading some festive cheer. With stalls and concert spots scattered around the New and Old Palace, the Market Square, and the collegiate church, the city center promises to be the hottest spot for pre-holiday enthusiasts.
Andreas Kroll, Managing Director of in.Stuttgart-Veranstaltungsgesellschaft, shared his thoughts on the occasion, "Christmas holds a special place in many hearts, especially now when we're all grappling with the world's turmoil."
This year, around 200 decorative stalls are sprinkled across, including over 160 niche handicrafts, decorations, gifts, textiles, and domestic goods. Moreover, 36 succulent food stalls are serving up delights like Schupfnudeln with sauerkraut, roasted almonds, and Steckerlfisch amidst an array of drinks. To add to the celebration, we're just thrilled to have more stalls accessible in the Market Square, eluding last year's coronavirus restrictions, noted Marcus Christen, the in.Stuttgart department head responsible for the city center festivals and Cannstatter Wasen.
The Ferris wheel has also made a comeback to Schlossplatz, and multiple concerts are planned in the collegiate church and the Old Palace courtyard, as per the organizers. Over three million merrymakers flock to the market every year.
With a history that dates back more than 300 years, the Stuttgart Christmas Market is one of Europe's oldest and most extensive pre-holiday extravaganzas. A point of interest mentioned in a document as far back as 1692[1].
During their downtime, visitors can explore the innumerable uniquely crafted trinkets and decorations on display at the festooned stalls. Regardless of the challenges faced in the past year, the Stuttgart Christmas market boasts a vast palette of traditional treats and beverages in its customs.
