The Top Brass of Ghana's Military Hits Up Obuasi Gold Mine

In a recent tour de force, Major-General Oppong-Peprah, the Chief of Army Staff of the Ghana Armed Forces, paid a visit to AngloGold Ashanti's gold Mine in Obuasi. The tour was no sightseeing expedition; instead, it was a business call to better understand the mine's operations, tackle security issues plaguing the mining sector, and bolster protection against illegal activities.

Accompanying him were a crack team of military honchos and the warm welcome came from the Managing Director of AngloGold Ashanti (Ghana) Limited, none other than Mr. Eric Asubonteng, and his形象队伍.

Mr. Asubonteng was nothing but thankful, attributing the vas weaponry the Ghana military has wielded against the unruly illegal miners at their Obuasi Mine as a beacon of hope in a sea of chaos. "Illegal miners have taken our once peaceful Obuasi Mine hostage with their armed aggression. The Ghana government's timely intervention through the military has ensured the safety and security of our employees, host communities, and assets," he declared.

Thrilled by the Obuasi Mine's support and camaraderie, Major-General Oppong-Peprah echoed his gratitude and reaffirmed the Ghana Public Security Agencies' commitment to fortify the Obuasi Mine against potential threats. He disclosed engaging in advanced talks to roll out a fully-equipped Forward Operating Base (FOB) at Obuasi, a move predicted to help combat illegal mining and criminal acts with more precision.

Illegal mining and the nefarious activities that come with it pose way too many dangers to the hapless miners, economic, social, and environmental risks to locals, and a huge threat to AngloGold Ashanti's prosperous Obuasi gold mine.

One up with the lay of land, Major-General Oppong-Peprah and his posse trekked through the mine's operations and hotspots generally rife with illegal mining activities. To beef up their defenses, AngloGold Ashanti requested more support from the military, and a whopping four brand new military vehicles invaded the scene to aid patrol effectiveness within the concession.

Alas, as of current findings, no official confirmation or updates can be found regarding the operational status of the proposed Forward Operating Base at Obuasi by Ghana Public Security Agencies or the specific role it would play in combating illegal mining. Plainly put, it's a radio silence situation from the Ghanaian government and AngloGold Ashanti as of mid-2025.

  1. The recent visit by Major-General Oppong-Peprah to AngloGold Ashanti's Obuasi Mine, focusing on security issues and illegal activities, could be a topic in the general-news and crime-and-justice sections of a report.
  2. In politics, the establishment of a Forward Operating Base at Obuasi to combat illegal mining could be a significant policy decision, pending official confirmation and updates from the Ghanaian government and AngloGold Ashanti.
