Arms enthusiasts rejoice in the town of Kaarst-Holzbüttgen.
The Grenadier Corps, a historical regiment with roots dating back to the mid-17th century, is rethinking its traditions and planning for an exciting future. Founded in 1659 as the Regiment of the Guards under Duke Charles Emmanuel II of Savoy, the Corps has a rich history that spans over four centuries.
In 1831, the Grenadiers Brigade "Guardie" was formally raised under King Charles Albert of Sardinia, comprising the 1st Grenadiers Regiment and the 2nd Hunters Regiment. Although historical records do not explicitly mention the Grenadier Corps' participation in shooting parades or specific plans for shooting balls, their heritage includes elite infantry status and a strong emphasis on marksmanship.
As the Corps looks to the future, they are considering a shooting ball for all Corps, following the Vorster model. This event, if it materializes, is expected to have a strong, unifying character, as suggested by Stefan Vollmert.
Meanwhile, the Corps is gearing up for a birthday celebration on Friday, July 28th, starting at 7:30 PM. The festivities will include a concert performed by the band "Booster", known for their top performances at the Kaarst Total city festival. Tickets for the concert, priced at 18 euros, can be purchased at various locations, including Somthai on Nordkanalallee 1, Werners Shop at Rathausplatz 3, Zick Zack Basteln on Neusser Straße 11-13, and online at www.grennies4you.de.
The Grenadier Corps, the youngest and smallest Corps of the Holbüttgener Regiment, is known for its vibrant spirit. With only seven Züge in Frack and Zylinder, the average membership is under 20. The Corps first participated in the shooting parade in Holzbüttgen in an ensemble consisting of the Grenadier Züge "Brave Jonge", "Einigkeit", "För de Freud", and the two independent Züge "Pioniere" and "Bruderschaftsfahne".
Eight "birthday children" have come together to form the core team organizing the birthday celebration. Among them is Stefan Vollmert, who is realizing the magnitude of the task they have undertaken. The last Grenadier Ball was held at the Holiday Inn, but it won't be in that form again. Instead, the festival tent doors will open for all shooters and guests at 7:30 PM, offering specialties from the grill and cold drinks in abundance.
As the Grenadier Corps continues to evolve, it remains committed to preserving its rich history while embracing new traditions. For more information about the Corps and upcoming events, visit www.grennies4you.de.
